Job Description
Live Assets | IT Staffing Solutions is hiring a Data Scientist\ Health Researcher\Simulation Modeller for one of its clients. You will be working on a project to further develop an AI-based model that simulates patient flows to support healthcare system capacity planning, particularly for seniors and continuing care populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, refine, build, and maintain microsimulation models representing patient trajectories through long-term care and other health services settings.
  • Use open-source simulation frameworks (e.g., SimPy, mesa, simpyLC in Python; OpenM++, SimYouLate, SimPaths in R) to support discrete-event, agent-based, or hybrid simulations.
  • Incorporate demographic, health status, equity stratifiers and care pathway data to model the life-course transitions of older adults through home care, community-based care, inpatient and/or institutional LTC settings.
  • Apply model validation, calibration, and sensitivity analysis techniques to ensure internal validity and policy relevance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, data scientists, clinicians, and policy analysts to ensure models are relevant and grounded in real-world data.
  • Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of alternative individual and service level factors on patients’ clinical pathways and resource allocation.
  • Communicate model assumptions, limitations, and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Training and transfer of knowledge pertaining the development and methodology for microsimulation modelling, including the preparation of analytical data files, model design, and simulation engine development.
  • Maintain documentation and version control of model architecture, parameters, and code.
  • Translate simulation outputs into actionable insights for stakeholders by producing clear visualizations, reports, or briefings.

Necessary Skills

  • Experience with microsimulation modelling (discrete-event, agent-based, or hybrid).
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R and use of simulation frameworks (e.g., SimPy, Mesa, OpenM++, SimPaths).
  • Experience working with healthcare or patient data.
  • Knowledge of model validation, calibration, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization, documentation, and version control (Git).
