Job Description
Live Assets | IT Staffing Solutions is hiring a Business Consultant Level 2 – Laboratory for our client. The consultant will play a pivotal role in transitioning from paper-based to CPOE lab ordering processes, working to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of lab workflows. This role requires a deep understanding of Cerner EMR solutions, healthcare IT principles, and laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of future state CPOE laboratory workflows in ambulatory and acute care settings.
- Collaborate closely with clinical subject matter experts, Lab Informatics team, and Cerner application specialists to ensure seamless integration of workflows.
- Recommend system solutions to operational leadership, clinicians, and other stakeholders, considering best practices and user requirements.
- Produce end to end CPOE laboratory workflows using tools like Visio, ensuring clarity and accuracy in design.
- Work with stakeholders to translate future state workflows into Cerner system designs, addressing user needs and system capabilities.
- Participate in various levels of testing (functional, integrated, acceptance) by developing test scenarios, scripts, and ensuring proper execution.
- Create training materials and support the training process, including a ‘train the trainer’ approach, to prepare stakeholders for the CPOE implementation.
- Lead communication and collaboration within and across enterprise teams, facilitating meetings and driving meaningful future state designs.
- Produce detailed and well-structured content to support decision-making processes with governance boards.
- Assist ancillary lab leadership in understanding the impacts of CPOE implementation on laboratory operations.
- Maintain awareness of interconnectivity of workflows, identifying key dependencies for successful future state definitions of both workflows and system designs.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in working with co-workers, cross-functional teams, end users, vendors, and leadership.
Necessary Skills
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience as a clinical or applications analyst, computer technician in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience establishing laboratory CPOE workflows in ambulatory and acute care settings using Cerner EMR solutions.
- Strong expertise in CPOE lab workflows in Cerner PowerChart, with knowledge of LIS applications being beneficial.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare IT principles, best practices, and laboratory workflows.
- Proven ability to define future state laboratory CPOE workflows across the full laboratory lifecycle, focusing on pre and post-analytical phases.
- Experience with large-scale EMR implementations in fast-paced environments.
- Experience in translating future state workflows into Cerner system designs.
- Familiarity with change management and incident management processes.
- History of leading transformation within complex EMR implementation projects, delivering high-quality outcomes within deadlines.
- Proficient in testing methodologies, developing test scenarios, and executing tests for integrated applications and core systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, leveraging experience to create workflows that avoid issues and ensure user satisfaction.
- Strong knowledge of Cerner PowerChart and related functionality supporting Laboratory CPOE.
- Prior experience in large-scale, fast-paced healthcare environments is essential.
