Job Description

Live Assets | IT Staffing Solutions is hiring a Cerner Business Consultant Level 2 for our government client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of future state Cerner-based laboratory CPOE workflows in ambulatory and acute care settings. Will include the transition from paper-based to CPOE lab ordering processes in ambulatory spaces.
  • Focus is on workflows that are for patient provider pre and post-analytical phases of the end-to-end laboratory workflows that occur in clinics/units
  • Focus is on physician, nursing, and clerical workflows in clinics (and to lesser extent, acute care units) as they pertain to lab order entry including but not limited to encounter/ADT impacts on orders, order activations, requisition printing, and processing, specimen collection workflows, order sentence designs, invasive specimen collection procedures (including understanding associated non-lab orders required to perform the procedure), lab order set, internal vs externally executed orders, result display, messaging, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Lab Informatics team that is responsible for LIS applications and intra-lab workflows (working in the LIS and defining intra-lab workflows are out of scope for this role). Communication with Lab Informatics to ensure operational awareness and preparedness for upcoming changes is expected.
  • Direct and recommend system solutions to internal teams, operational leadership, clinicians, professional organizations, departmental partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Producing end-to-end CPOE laboratory workflows by working with clinical SMEs, informatics, and Cerner application specialists (Visio used).
  • Applies knowledge to improve operational workflows, streamline processes, and support strategies. Consults and advises on advanced features, functions, and proper uses of Cerner applications (including PowerChart) and core systems. Applies in-depth knowledge of operations, and expertise from previous implementation experiences to assist with the assessment, development, and support of workflows.
  • Produce detailed and thought-out content to support expedient decision-making with governance boards.
  • Assist in preparing ancillary lab leadership for go-live with an understanding of the impacts of a CPOE implementation on laboratory operations.
  • Leads collaboration within and across enterprise teams. Initiates, facilitates, and leads regular meetings with users and decision-makers to drive meaningful future state designs.
  • Producing training material to the extent of a ‘train the trainer’ level as well as providing support throughout the go-live process.
  • Participates in various levels of testing (functional, integrated, acceptance) including test planning, test script writing, and execution. Operational, system, and acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience as a clinical or applications analyst, or computer technician in a healthcare setting
  • Strong Knowledge of Cerner PowerChart and related functionality that supports Laboratory CPOE. LIS knowledge an asset but not required.
  • Experience establishing laboratory CPOE workflows in ambulatory care and acute care settings with Cerner EMR solutions; must have experience in implementing workflows that occur outside of the laboratory department
  • Strong experience with CPOE lab workflows in PowerChart
  • Involvement with large-scale EMR implementations in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience driving transformational changes in healthcare environments working closely with physicians, nurses, clerks, ancillary department staff, and other key partners.
  • Experience translating future state workflows to Cerner system designs.
  • Proven ability to lead transformation within highly complex EMR implementation projects.
  • Proven familiarity with testing as it pertains to laboratory CPOE designs. Proven proficiency in developing test scenarios and scripts for integrated ancillary applications and core systems.
  • Able to self-direct, identify tasks that are required to be performed and be a strong leader/advocate of change
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in working regularly with co-workers, other teams, end users, department managers, vendors, and senior and executive leadership.
