Job Description
Live Assets | Transit Staffing Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Planner – Rail Systems who will be responsible for leading and managing the planning, development, and implementation of rail system projects. This role involves strategic planning, coordination with stakeholders, and ensuring that rail projects align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and community needs. The Senior Planner will play a key role in shaping the future of rail transportation by analyzing data, forecasting demand, and developing innovative solutions to improve rail system efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term plans for rail systems, including infrastructure, operations, and service improvements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for proposed rail projects.
  • Identify opportunities for system expansion, modernization, and integration with other modes of transportation.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of rail projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, transit authorities, community groups, and private sector partners to align rail projects with broader transportation goals.
  • Facilitate public consultations and address community concerns related to rail system planning and development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure project support and funding.
  • Analyze ridership data, population growth, and urban development trends to forecast future demand for rail services.
  • Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimize rail system performance.
  • Develop performance metrics and monitor the effectiveness of implemented plans.
  • Ensure all rail projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines for rail system planning and operations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in rail transportation.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners and other team members.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

 

Necessary Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in transportation planning, with a focus on rail systems.
  • Strong knowledge of rail infrastructure, operations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in transportation modeling software, GIS tools, and data analysis techniques.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and emerging technologies in rail systems is a plus.
  • Primavera P6 (experience required), PMP, CAPM, or  PMI-SP will be an asset
