Ontario Minimum Wage Guide 2025
As of October 1, 2024 Ontario’s minimum wage has increased from to $17.20 per hour making it the second highest in Canada after British Columbia. This is 3.9% annual increase is based on Ontario Consumer Price Index (CPI) and as part of the governments Working for Workers Act, 2024
Any employees working full time, part time, casual or those paid in commission flat rate or salary are eligible for minimum wage. If an employee is paid fully or partly by commission it must be at least equal to the current minimum wage for each hour the employee has worked.
What is the minimum wage in Ontario?
Minimum wage is the lowest wage an employer can legally pay their employees. According to the Employment Standards Act (ESA) employers are free to pay higher wages but no less than the current minimum wage.
Along with the general minimum wage, the following minimum wage rates will also be seeing an increase:
Student minimum wage in Ontario: $16.20 per hour
Hunting and fishing guides minimum wage in Ontario: $86 for less than five consecutive working hours. For guides working more than five hours will see an increase to $172.05.
Homeworkers wage in Ontario: $18.90 per hour

October 1 2024 – September 30, 2025: $17.20
October 1 2023 – September 30, 2024: $16.55
October 1 2022 – September 30, 2023: $15.50
January 1, 2022 – September 30, 2022: $15.00
October 1 2021 – December 31, 2021: $14.35
October 1 2020 – September 30, 2021: $14.25
Annual minimum wage changes
Every year on October 1st, minimum wages may increase. This increase is to be announced on or before every April 1st of that year.
If this raise has occurred between your paydays, the pay period will be treated as two separate pay periods. Employees can expect to be paid at least the minimum wage for each period.
